Ben is a double bass player from Glasgow, Scotland. His training includes an ABRSM scholarship to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating in 2018, an Erasmus placement at HAMU Academy in Prague, and a place on the Hallé String Leadership Scheme. His professors were Nikita Naumov, Ronan Dunne and Jiří Hudec. Ben began freelancing during his undergraduate studies and has worked with most of the leading symphony, opera and chamber orchestras in the UK, including as principal with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and Opera North. Ben is section leader double bass of the Ulster Orchestra, which he joined in 2025 from his previous position as section leader double bass at Welsh National Opera. Ben also enjoys teaching and coaching, having taught previously at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and coached youth orchestras such as the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland.
