About the Orchestra

The CBOI is at the heart of our community - celebrated nationally and internationally as one of the world's most exceptional youth ensembles, and an international peace initiative.

Each year, talented young musicians from across Ireland and Northern Ireland participate in our Summer workshop, rehearsals, seasonal concerts and our annual national Peace Proms tour which takes place every Spring.

They play exceptional bespoke musical arrangements in the symphonic celtic rock genre - from new music to classics - to audiences in excess of 60,000, and are shaping what the next generation of Irish music will sound like.

Our Orchestra members include Junior, GCSE, Leaving Cert and A-Level students, as well as university students who balance their commitment to the CBOI with demanding courses in medicine, law, psychology, education, languages, engineering, business, primary teaching, science, sports science, and more. Our members are living proof that the skills nurtured through music - discipline, creativity, problem-solving, memory, and teamwork, fuel success far beyond the concert hall.

About the adventure

Musicians take their seat in the orchestra for the year, starting with the Summer workshop in late July. It's a journey through five months of weekly Sunday rehearsals, and then the nationwide Peace Proms tour in Spring which includes up to 20 spectacular concerts held at arenas in Dublin, Belfast, Limerick and Waterford.

Orchestra members often get the opportunity to travel abroad and have previously sold out iconic venues including Carnegie Hall, New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
