The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland is now accepting applications for membership for the 2026–27 season.
The CBOI provides exceptional performance opportunities for young people coupled with orchestral training which is second to none. If you are a young musician between the ages of 13 and 24 who is passionate about music and not afraid of hard work and commitment — now is your chance to become part of one of Ireland's leading cultural initiatives.
What you get as a CBOI member
Arena performances: Perform in arena concerts across Ireland and Northern Ireland to audiences of over 60,000 people at venues including the SSE Arena Belfast, Simmonscourt Arena RDS Dublin and the University Sports Arena Limerick.
World-class training: Work with conductor Maestro Greg Beardsell — one of the most outstanding conductors of his generation — and Ireland's top professional musicians who coach members during workshops and perform alongside them at concerts.
International opportunities: CBOI members have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and at prestigious events across Ireland, the UK and beyond.
Cross-community friendship: Join 100+ talented young musicians aged 13–24 from every county across the island of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Requirements
Applicants should be aged between 13 and 24. The minimum standard is Grade 5 RIAM or ABRSM with honours.
Rehearsals take place on 3 Sundays per month from August to January at Coláiste Chu Chulainn, Dundalk. Concerts take place at weekends from January to March. Commitment is a key requirement.
New members must be available to join from the summer workshop which takes place 27–31 July. This non-residential workshop is compulsory for all new members.
Applicants will be asked to submit a video audition. You should prepare two contrasting pieces at the appropriate level for your grade.
